COMMUNITY OUTREACH

SAFE TRICK OR TREAT:

M.O.R.T. actively participates in the Mount Olive Key Club's annual Trick-or-Treat event.
We engage the future generations of STEAM enthusiasts by providing an interactive station for children to view and play with the robot - reaching nearly 4000 annually.

This Initiative is designed to foster and nurture early interest in STEAM among the younger members of our community, aligning with Mount Olive's commitment to empowering its residents, through educational and recreational programs

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT:

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
National Night Out always provides a great opportunity to bring Local police officers and neighbors together under positive circumstances.
We join National Night Out to provide the opportunity to bring knowledge of FIRST, STEAM, and Robotics by presenting our robot and showcasing its abilities.

M.O.R.T. CLOTHING DRIVE:

Our active involvement in the Red Cross Clothing Drive reflects our commitment to community service and philanthropy.
In 2022 we donated 1,962 lbs of clothes. Our donations have continued to increase each year, 2023 we donated 3,064 lbs of clothes, 2024, 2025 we donated an astounding 3649 pounds of clothing

This significant contribution demonstrates M.O.R.T.'s dedication to making a positive impact and supporting vulnerable communities through charitable Initiatives.

CUSTOM WHEELCHAIR:

Our team created a custom wheelchair for a student within our elementary school network in the Mountain View School.
The family of the student who couldn't afford an electric wheelchair reached out to us, asking us for assistance.
Members of our team designed and assembled a one of one custom wheelchair, specially modified to the family's request with no cost to the family.

M.O.R.T. STEM TABLETS:

M.O.R.T. donated 150 tablets to underprivileged children for them to use to learn about STEM.
The Sojihuggles Children's Foundation, a non-profit organization, contacted M.O.R.T. to supply us tablets from a hospital contractor. We proceeded to download STEM-related apps onto each tablet and then helped to have them distributed through Sojihuggles.

FLL (FIRST LEGO League) Qualifier and Championship

M.O.R.T. gives back to FIRST by hosting the FIRST Lego League qualifying event and the FIRST Lego League championship event our Local FIRST Mid-Atlantic district.
M.O.R.T. members volunteer as queue runners, judge assistants, and referees!

These events give our team the opportunity to demonstrate tour community throughout our state about robotics and FIRST. Hundreds of children and adults attend this fun and engaging tournament and learn about different robot teams and designs. This event strongly inspires many of these young students to join a FIRST team in their town.

The Mount Olive Carnival

This Carnival has always been a M.O.R.T. event tradition. Located in Turkey Brook Park right next to our high school, we request a spot annually. We receive stage time to give a demonstration of our robots (M.O.R.T. and M.O.R.T. Beta) as well as a brief rundown of our team.

Afterwards, we invited both the children and parents to come up on the stage for a closer look and to ask any questions they might have.

Many of the parents expressed their interest in out team and explained their excitement about their children getting involved with FIRST.

M.O.R.T. always enjoys being able to make a positive impact on students and members of our community, exciting them about the opportunities offered to them in the field of STEAM!

The Mount Olive Fairies and Pirates Festival

Yearly we showcase our robot and invite children to engage with the game elements and ask questions. We look forward to doing these events again next year!

SCIENCE FAIRS:

Every year, members of M.O.R.T. volunteer at the Mount Olive District Science Fairs.

The science fairs, hosted by each of the elementary schools in Mount Olive, manifest STEAM education and encourage students to present their experiments. M.O.R.T. participates by volunteering to judge the children’s experiments. Moreover, they invigorate STEAM by demonstrating the robot and its capabilities.
