2005-2013
MORT is Born
2010 was a challenge for MORT. New ideas were attempted, many new mentors, a demanding game. Despite all the obstacles, MORT proved once again its ability to rise to the occasion. Our captains this year were Akash R, Alex J and Harrison R.
The State FLL event this year had only teams that had won awards at 8 qualifying events around the state. The high school, dance, Snowland was once again forced to co-exist with us in the school on the day of our events. Adjustments ere made by all and both events were successful. The excitement level was once again awesome. Our new Superintendent Dr. Larrie Reynolds was there to witness the excitement first hand and be part of the opening ceremonies He was thanked for all his support by our Regional Director, Don Bowers.
Our first event was the New Jersey Regional. A big thank you to everyone for their time, energy, patience, enthusiasm, dedication, etc. with this event! It was one of the most intense efforts MORT has ever been a part of and as usual we came through with flying colors. Our team did an excellent job representing MORT, the Mt. Olive School District, the local community, our sponsors , and FIRST! Thank you!
Also, a big THANK_YOU to Mr. Van Glahn, Mr. Marvin, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Baker, Mr. DiCola, Mr. Borer and Mr. Binovsky for their time and dedication to our team!
For those of you who were unable to attend here's what hap-
pened:
) NJ Regional Quarter-Finalist out of 61 teams. we lost
our first match, won the second and the was eliminated with a 2010 Graduates:
tough 8-6 loss!
2) Won the Innovation in Control Award sponsored by
Rockwell International.
There is a lot of work to catch up on before we head off to - Matthew (javanaugh _
Boston in two weeks.
MORT had a great showing and effort at the regional in Boston, MA! We made it to the Quarter-Finals, were ranked 13th , and effectively played the game (We're all trying to block out of our minds the NJ Regional Experience!)! !!
Here's a summation of what was observed at this event:
1) We showed the Boston FIRST community what Team ll is all about!
2) Our Chairman's Award Team did a GREAT JOB!!! Thank you to the students and mentors for your time and dedication!
3) Our Drive Team did an awesome job! It's amazing what you can do when your robot functions the way it's supposed to!
4) Our pit crew and mentors did an amazing job getting us on the field for all of our matches. Thank you Mr. Baker for finding the metal chip that was shorting our electrical board! ! !!
5) We almost won a quarter-finals match on our own! While frustrating as it was that our alliance partners didn't have a good effort, we did our thing and almost single handedly beat the #1 Seeded alliance!
6) Parents - THANKYOU!!! I was so proud that so many of you made the trip up to Boston to support our team! It was noticed by all! THANK YOU!!
7) Great job done by Eric Drost and his teammates that worked the entire weekend on making our roller/kicker end effector which we hope to bring to Atlanta for the Championship! Great work teaml!
8) Our trip to Boston was a success and we should all be proud of our efforts!
We now switch our attention to Atlanta and the FIRST Championship!
The team arrived home today from the FIRST Championship in Atlanta, exhausted but proud of our team's effort. MORT started the event by going 3-0 on Thursday, but then had a variety of issues/circumstances that saw us end on an 0-6-1, ending up 3-6-l. We battled through the challenges as MORT always does and our team should be proud of that fact. We kept trying to hang, but just couldn't pull it off. One bright note is that one of our wins came against the eventual National’ Champion, Team 67! Overall, we had a great time, enjoyed the experience and will carry forward the lessons learned. '
We would like to thank the following parents and mentors who helped me pull this trip off to the FIRST, without them we’re not sure where we'd be!
Ellen and Mike Van Glahn, Mike Van Glahn, Jr., Terry and Meeta Thomas, Cheryl and Bob Borer, George Ackely, Marie Clark, Evelyn Lavin, Trish Joss
A BIG THANK YOU to all
As a team, this past FRC season has been intense and one of never ending hurdles! We will learn from this experience and use this knowledge to make us a stronger team. A personal thanks to all of the students for constantly rising to the challenges we encountered this season! In the coming weeks, we
will be looking for students interested in stepping up to lead our team. If you feel you're up to challenge of leading MORT on in 20ll, step up and make a difference, next year starts now
Great job team on another successful season!

1997- MORT's Big Bang
In the fall of 1996, after helping to create a technology program at Mount Olive High School, we came across an article in an educational magazine touting this new robotics program FIRST. We contacted FIRST by phone as we were looking for a unique technology competition to boost Tech Education.
After recieving and watching a video sent to us from First, we immediately sought out the information to get involved. We were particularly inspired by the enthusiam of the students at the national tournament that had just occured.
We reached out to BASF, as they had a office in the nearby trade center to see if they would be our first sponsor. they replied and became our first sponsor.
